I was wondering, im nearing my due date, im dialated, effaced, and losing my mucus plug. Ive tried sex to induce labor, and all I get are painful braxton hicks like a minute apart. Is that good getting them? Does that mean im close? And is that what eventually turns into real contractions? And did sex just cause BH for anyone else? Thanks everyone!
would having sex a little rough help too?
I tried castor oil, didnt work. I tried it twice. I dont want to try anymore.

I just asked my midwife today if I was allowed to have sex after I lost my mucus plug ( I haven't yet) she said yes. Sex is fine up until labor and it will help get things going. It is good that you are getting Braxton Hicks they are strengthening you uterus for the job ahead and they do turn into real contractions. I hope you get to meet your baby soon!!! I am 37 weeks and can't wait!!!

Have you used it? I am 40 weeks on Monday. I have been hoping for a VBAC with this pregnancy, but not much is happenning. I haven't lost my plug and I have not been dilating. She managed to squeeze in and stretch me to a 2 today (OUCH). Doc said she will only allow me to go 41 before having another c-section and she can't induce. She has given me the "homework" assignment of lots of sex before Monday (my next appt) and if I can get to 3cm she will break my water. I'd really like to get labor started on its own. I don't want to try herbs or oil.

We are already having sex. I just wanted some other ways of encouraging things along. If sex alone did the trick everytime then no one would ever be on here asking how to do this. Apparently docs don't induce VBACS because the drugs can bring really strong contractions…that may be more than what your scarred uterus can handle.

The point b/t your thumb and index finger can be massaged for 30 to 60 seconds at a time rhythmically to produce contractions. Nipple stimulation & clitoral orgasms can also do this… (orgasms can trigger strong contractions hehehe).

Try walking. A lot. Walk as much as possible. Also, bouncing on a birth ball (or exercise ball) may help, too.

Walking + Sex + Membranes stripping might do the trick….

How come your doctor will not induce you? I have heard doctors are leary about inducing VBACS but I don't know why.

The membrane sweep put me into labor… although the labor lasted three days before I started dilating past 3 cm. I went to the hospital & was induced because of preeclampsia. I was pretty mad because my midwife kept sending me home saying I was not in labor–and has told me for one month that I don't have preeclampsia (long story). I finally went to the hospital dying from pain with 170/110 BP. The labor only took a couple of 2 hours once they induced me. I am so glad that I am no longer pregnant.

is walking a mile and 1/2 enough to induce labor or should i walk more then that i just walked 1mile 1/2 and still nothing oh and my second question after walking will it happen right away or could it be a couple hours later

Walking is very good exercise, but it won't actually induce labor…it can help get the baby into position though. If you want to try to get things going, try having sex (the semen can help soften the cervix)…also nipple stimulation can cause contractions, but none of that will work if the time is right. Nothing is PROVEN to induce labor naturally…the baby will come when the time is right, so get plenty of rest and finish up any last minute shopping/stuff that you need to do! Be patient…your sweet little one will be in your arms before you know it!! Good luck!

I have been in "early labor" for 2 weeks now and have been dilated to 2cm for the same amount of time. How can I naturally induce labor - Sex is not working - !

Use your breast pump. 10 minutes on one side, 10 on the other, then stop for 10, then start again! do that for an hour or two….
i did that the night before they were going to induce me, and i went into labor 5 hours later.
Worked for my sister twice!!!!

The best way to induce labor when you're near the 40th week, HAVE SEX! When i was 38 weeks pregnant, my husband and i had sex and about an hour later i started to dilate..then a week later we had sex again and 2 hours later my water broke and I went into labor!

Sex was the last thing on my mind at 40 weeks pregnant!! Instead I tried labor acupressure and that did the trick within 48 hours!

I've heard of these magical pressure points to help induce or speed up labor. . .above the ankle, between thumb and forefinger, and the roof of your mouth. How long am I supposed to apply pressure? Do I do it more than once? I'm in labor and it's not going very quickly.

Yes they can be very effective in augmenting (speeding up) or inducing labor. They can be stimulated either by acupressure (do it yourself) or acupuncture (seek a professional).

The pressure can be applied at the beginning of each contraction or continual gentle pressure can be applied that is intensified during contractions. Whatever seems to have the greater effect on your contractions.

Ok i am 34 weeks and i love pinapple and i eat it all the time.But I read some where it helps induce labor.And I want to know if any one has ever eatten pinapple then later or then went into labor If this is ture please let me know cause i would like to stop eating it if it does

I have the pregnancy book "What to expect when your expecting" and it says to take mineral oil to induce labor. Does anyone know of anything negative about taking mineral oil? Has anyone taken mineral oil and then went into labor? Thanks everyone.

I was 39 wks with my daughter and I was soooo impatient. I thought about doing some of the things I had heard for inducing myself but my mom said it can be bad for you and baby. So I walked instead. It worked! I don't recommend taking anything that causes labor to start.

Im 38 weeks pregnant and i've heard that sex can induce labor. Did this work for you and if so how many weeks were you when you went into labor? SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE!

I didn't need to use this since I went into labor in the 37th week…but it is supposed to be true. The seamen actually softens the uterus and helps get the baby to drop…if what I have read is true. Here is a site that references reports in both sides of the argument.
