Castor Oil to induce labor? How often….?
How much castor oil and how often should I take it to induce labor?
After how long of taking it should I stop?
And how long after I begin to take it should it work?
I'm 39.3 weeks along with 4th baby and I've been suffering from diarrhea all day and feeling sick for a few days now-so I'm ready to get this over with.
My midwife claims my body is ready for labor and the baby is at -2, I'm 1.5 cm dilated, 40% effaced
never did it before.. and if you feel like you have to be rude don't leave an answer… use your negativity somewhere else
I had a sweep 5 days ago and I'm still pregnant- so it didn't work for me.
Why are so many people so negative in their replies- is this how you are in your day to day encounters with others?
FYI: all of my other babies didn't make me feel sick towards the end, didn't have me swollen and didn't make it difficult for me to sleep- remember every pregnancy is different

Don't drink castor oil! The only thing that will happen is massive diarrhea and cramping…I know from personal experience because I too was impatient…just wait it out! Instead try having sex, walking or stimulating your nipples to induce contractions! Otherwise, let it happen naturally…you're almost there! Good luck with everything!

Castor oil does not work. It is a myth. I would think you would already know that being this is your 4th child.
Do you really wanna drink that crap..you don't have much longer to go. You can do it.

The best answer to this is none, ever! It doesn't actually induce labor. It irritates the bowels, which can in turn cause you to go into labor or it could just cause you about 48hrs of extreme discomfort. You wont leave the bathroom for quite awhile after you take it. It can cause you to get severely dehydrated, which can send you into labor but I promise you don't want to go into labor under those circumstances. You've already got diarrhea so you wouldn't want to make it worse.
Try walking and having sex. Sex can ripen the cervix and orgasms can trigger contractions. Walking, esp up and down stairs, can put pressure on the cervix and help it to start opening.
Good luck and congrats!

i did this with my 4th baby. i used about 3 tablespoons mixed with pinapple juice.apparently pineapple juice will also help induce labor but you have to drink lots of it. i was in labor 4 hours at home and then it got intense and i went to the hospital and had my baby 13 hours later. i was 37 weeks3 days along. my baby was 7lbs 4 oz and completely healthy. good luck. and yes it did work.

NO NO NO!!!
Too much can go wrong…I cant believe your midwife suggested this!!
Severe Fetal Distress can occur, its a laxative that can make you poop as well as the baby, if they swallow the meconium they get very very very sick!! Requiring IV antibiotics immediately after birth!! Your only 40% effaced thats not being ready for labor…80-90% is ready!
ETA ~ If your body was showing signs of being ready for labor your midwife should've done a stretch and sweep first before advising castor oil!
ETA ~ If you had a sweep 5 days ago and are still pregnant then your body isnt ready for labor…
I'm not trying to be negative, i'm trying to save you and the baby from severe complications! Its my JOB!
