Does anybody know any way to induce labor?
I am 9 months pregnant and the baby is 9 pounds, if I don't go into labor within a week, the baby will be too big and I will have to have a C section. The doctors won't induce my labor untill I am 2 weeks overdue, so does anybody know any safe way to induce labor {herbal tea or something like that}?
I have sex every other day, my husband will probably be sick of sex if it lasts any longer
Also, I walk a lot and take a hot shower everyday. No succes
The Answer by Kate :
OK, there are several things you can try but nothing is guaranteed to work. A few things we suggest to people are, walking, nipple stimulation, and sex. There is a hormone in semen that can help start your labor. I know some midwives and other doctors use Castor oil from time to time, but that causes vomiting and diarrhea and doesn't guarantee labor. I hope something works for you, but if not, a c-section is not the worst thing. I have had 3 of them. And in the end what matters most is a healthy mom and a healthy baby! Good luck!!!

i don't know if it's true, but i heard that if you have sex it can bring on labor quicker. some positions may be hard to master, but i'm sure you'll find a suitable one.

Walk, sex, walk. My last pregnancy I was having contractions that were not doing anything, so they had me do alot of walking and it worked. I dialated from a 1 to a 3 in like an hour and a half. I know the last thing that you want to do when you are 9 months pregnant is go for a long romantic walk…but its better that having that C-section. Good Luck and congradulations on the new baby.

Well lets see here, I am now 38 weeks preggo, i have been dialated to a 1 cm and 80% effaced for about 4 weeks now, i take 3-4 hot showers/baths a day, have sex, walk a mile about everyday…..and you see, nothing has happened! I did believe in it, but not now lol. I wish you good luck if you try any of these!

Try a birthing ball! (an excersice ball) you just sit on it and roll your hips around on it, it brings the baby down into the birth canal, and rubs on the cervix helping it open up…I used one, and had my son at 38 1/2 wks…… It also helps during labor, you can lean or sit on it….. they are cheap, you can get one at wal-mart for under $10….

Fetal weight estimation by ultrasound is so completely inaccurate they shouldn't even do it. However now that your doctor thinks you have a baby you are going to have to fight ever step of the way to be able to have a normal vaginal delivery. They will not want to give you as much time as they give most moms.
Even in a high-risk population of pregnant women, ultrasound scans are not as useful as commonly believed. Evidence from randomized controlled trials suggests that sonographic identification of fetal growth retardation does not improve outcome despite increased medical surveillance.(3) In diabetic pregnancies it has been demonstrated that ultrasound measurements are not more accurate than clinical examination to identify high birth weight babies.(4) This led to the memorable title of an editorial of British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology: "Guess the weight of the baby.""

in my research to help my wonderful constipation problems (im 9 months as well) I've heard that laxatives/enema's can bring on labour. I have avoided the laxatives because that isnt something I want to be dealing with if it should happen to work!! I dont understand why they would make you have a c-section though. My doctor is expecting this baby to be roughly 10#, and will not do a c-section. i dont understand why your doctor wouldnt opt to induce you rather than put you through the pain of a c-section??

there is nothing you can do to bring labor on unless you are already in the beginning stages of labor.
when you do start labor though–nipple stimulation is the number one thing to 'get it going'
