Natural ways to induce labor?
I am looking for natural ways to induce labor. I am 39 weeks and am scheduled to be induced on monday, but i would like to go about it naturally. I have timeable contractions if i take a bumpy car ride but they stop after I get out of the car. Any suggestions?
The reason I am being induced is low placenta fluid and very little movement. 3 hours at the hospital and stimulation from the ultrasound techy and all she did was twitch her foot once. Good heartbeat and breathing though.

I feel for ya. I"m the same way. Contractions if I'm in the car but they stop as soon as I get out. I've been trying all the normally recommended ones…bumpy car ride, sex, sex, and more sex, walking. I refuse to try castor oil though because I'm afraid of the side effects. I've also tried nipple stimulation but that didn't work either. Good luck though!

I walked and walked alot. Tehn my doctor recommended strepping my membranes. That helped. Also you can have lots of sex. Good luck

Is there a reason they want to induce you on Monday? I know people who've been 3 weeks overdue and just waited for natural labor.
Try having sex - that helps induce labor - but if the baby's not ready, it won't happen until the baby is ready. Sorry.

Evening primose oil is what my midwife gave me to get the cervix softened. Pick with a pin and put it up your va agnia… 3 a time a nighttime.. it will dissolve up there… Do it before you lay down or it will drip out and is sticky and a mess
Some things you can try to get your uterus to contract is rasberry leaf tea.
Other than that, walks, spicy food, sperm in you, you orgasming and castor oil… are the old wives tales

you can use evening primrose oil (vaginally) because it has prostiglandins, and rasberry leaf tea which can cause contractions…blue and black cohosh are also supposed to start labor, you can get them at health food stores…they'll say sex (but it didn't help me much) but also ask the doc to "strip your membranes" where they separate the bag of water from the top of the cervix..that is supposed to promote the production of oxytocin

There are a few herbs that supposedly induce labor - I con't remember the names now, 1 is a tea, and the other 2 were pills black kohosh or something, If you search online or go to an herbal store they will know! These were recommended by my midwife.
Of course they did not work on me - I was 10 days late with my first and 6 days late with my daughter, both induced in the hospital the whole way.

Congrads….well I say have sex and alot of it…this should make your partner happy too.
My husband makes a joke that I am using him for his sperm ….LOL. Do it as much as possible, I also hear that nipple stimulation works to bring on contractions also, although I havent tried it. And I also hear that if you relax, you are more likely to go into labor, I am not really sure about that either, although I did go into labor in the middle of the night. Also try walking….but personally I would choose walking up and down my hallway (which is kinda long) as compared to outside, the temp where I live is in the 90's right now, wayyyy too hot for a pregnant woman. Anyway, I hope you ahve baby soon. Please let us all know when you do! Good luck and best wishes for your future!

Here are some of the most common methods women try to induce labor naturally
Sexual intercourse - This works in two ways to induce labor. First, female orgasm can bring on contractions. Second, semen contains prostaglandins. Prostaglandins work to help ripe and soften the cervix.
Nipple stimulation - Stimulating the nipples triggers the production of natural oxytocin. Oxytocin contracts the uterus.
Accupressure - Accupressure may be helpful in inducing labor. Some pressure points you can try are the roof of your mouth, the webbing of your fingers between your pointer finger and thumb, and above the ankle about four fingerspaces above is a pressure point.
Stripping the membranes - This can only be done by a health care provider. Your doctor or midwife will seperate the bag of waters from your cervix and this is thought to help encourage labor to start.
Raspberry Leaf Tea - Rasberry leaf tea is not actually known for it's labor inducing properties, but it is believed to be helpful in toning the uterus and helping with labor.
Cinnamin stick tea - Take cinnamin sticks and boil them into a tea and drink. It actually tastes good so even if it doesn't bring on labor it may help you to relax.
Evening primrose oil - Evening primrose oil comes in small capsules similar to vitamin e. It is believed to help soften and ripen the cervix.
Walking - Walking may help to get baby to drop into proper position.
Visualization/relaxation - Relaxation can help with labour induction Try doing relaxation exercisers. They are also good practice for when labor actually begins.
Pineapple, cumin tea, eggplant parmesan, and spicy foods - are another thing you can try.
I have eaten pineapple, curries and raspberry tea i just went to toilet alot, I went into get membranes stripped and cervix was too strong. I spotted for a few hours but Im still sitting here waiting…
I know how you feel as I am getting induced on wednesday, its my second I was induced last time - kinda wanted the surprise this time! I'm 39 weeks too, he's inducing me cos my bub is getting too big.

this is something i have heard about. try eating fat free for a whole day i.e. raw fruits and veggies and skinless chicken breast. supposedly if the baby is denied fat for a period of time it will decide it's time to get out and baby will begin the labor process. one person i know tried it and began having strong frequent contractions but her husband brought home food as a treat that didn't quite follow protocol and she ate it and contractions stopped shortly after. lol. i heard this is a secret midwives trick. good luck.

I used to have my husband rub by hands. If you make a "L" with your index finger and thumb have him rub the spot where the two meet. It hurts because that's a pretty tender area..I always thought it was a good hurt. I'd get contractions within minutes of him rubbing my hands.

Oh I wish I knew!! I've tried it all (almost) and so far just BHs. Though I haven't been checked yet so we will see tomorrow if there are any changes. Good luck! Oh and the Black and Blue cohosh is a good idea. What your suppose to do is 15-20 drops of each, every 1/2 hour either in a glass of water, tea, or just under the tongue (I did it in a shot glass because it is very strong tasting). It did give me some cramping that night but I did it every hour and only for 4 hours and 10 drops. The Blue is suppose to bring on contractions and the black is suppose to help soften the cervix. Good Luck I hope you find something that works!!

Taking a couple of tablespoons of castor oil is a sure bet. It may cause some intestinal cramping before it starts labor, but if your body is ready, it will start labor.
I successfully induced with castor oil, but my body was also showing signs of being ready. I've heard of and know plenty of women who've used castor oil successfully to induce. And yes, sex is great for inducing, too. Semen has a higher level of prostoglandins than that cream that they give you to induce.
Castor oil tastes awful, so you'll want to hide it in a milkshake or smoothie. Just start with a couple of tablespoons. Because of the intestinal effect it can have, don't plan on traveling far after you've taken it. My husband and I rented a hotel room near the hospital, I drank the castor oil smoothie, and labor started four hours later. We stayed at the hotel until we felt we needed to go in, and then we went! We freaked out the hotel folks a bit, but that was sort of fun.
You are smart to try to induce naturally. Pitocin makes your contractions more difficult and increases your chances of medical intervention.
Give it a try! Have fun. Your body and your baby know what to do.

I was watching a Baby Story yesterday and the women went to the doctor and wasn't ready at all to go into labor. She used Castor Oil and went into labor within a few hours and the midwife and doctor didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with it and the doctor said she couldn't believe how fast she progressed. I have never tried it though. Anyways, it causes diarrhea which then stimulates labor and she had the baby the next day. Worth a try at this stage. I was 37 weeks when I had my son so 38 weeks is far enough along to be safe. Let me know how it works =)
