Spicy food-induce labor?
Wondering if anyone out there has tried eating spicy food to induce labor? Did it work? I am 39 weeks pregnant (2nd child) and just got home from eating out at a Vietnamese restaurant where I ate the most spicy food EVER…could I expect to go into labor soon??

Unfortuantely this is an old wives tale - other variants on this theme include long walks, raspberry tea and sex. Although I'm sure that people have gone into labour after any of these so give them all a go - it's something to do anyway. Both my Ob and my friend who's a midwife recommend tweaking your nipples - apparently this can lead to uterine contractions. Good luck!

Funny you asked, because someone just asked how they could start labor and I told them I had something spicy. I ate nacho and cheese and 4 hrs later I was in labor. I think it works for some.

I don't know if you should "expect" to go into labor soon, but I will tell ya that the last meal I ate before I gave birth was Chinese (hot mustard and everything). I had been having contractions that went away for about a week and a half (my first baby!) and my husb and I were so excited that these were actually real that we seized the day and went out for our last "date." That was at about 6 or 7 p.m. By the end of dinner, I was feeling them hard enough to stop talking through them. At 3 a.m., we went to the hospital, and at 11:42, our little guy was born.
Friends of ours told us to try Chinese food. I didn't expect it to do anything, and deep down I don't think it did, but it's an excellent story and it made them pretty happy, too.
Best of luck to you.
