Cats Behavior: Understand Your Pet Better

Cat lovers are so numerous because there is such diversity in the size, color, and appearance of cats. In addition to the previous reasons, an individual cat’s behavior varies from cat to cat. You could get anything from loving to distant, oddball to boring, and numerous other behaviors as well.

Growing up in a crazy cat household (at one point we had up to thirteen indoor cats) their differences in personality made life interesting. Pansy, a beautiful long-hair tricolor cat (one of the first we got) was shy and quiet. Her affinity was for encyclopedias and she spent most of her time sitting on our old Britannica.

Eric the short-haired orange tabby did not have the best litter box habits, but this was countered by his loyalty and presence when one was ill mentally or physically. Tinker was the most intelligent. He could open a step-on rubbish bin with ease, and would make music for half a day if the strings of my guitar were available.

An important thing for you to know about your cats behavior is what is “normal” for him or her. If he goes nuts running up and down the hallway every night at the same time it’s probably one of his eccentricities. The same behavior in a cat that is normally more peaceful might be a clue that there is something disturbing her, which could be anything from not feeling well to resenting your Aunt Tillie’s visit.

Cats have a very strong need to feel that they are safe and secure in their little world. A sudden shift in routine may cause unusual cat behavior such as missing the mark when it comes to their little box or deciding they do not care for the brand of litter you are using. Her only means of telling me this was to no longer use her box. It took quite a bit of trial and error but we eventually found that she preferred shredded newsprint. We have had no problems since we figured that out.

Generally speaking cats behavior, like humans, can be varied. If you are aware of which behavior is “normal” for your cat, it will be easier for you to pick up on behavioral variations that indicate something is wrong.

There are so many people who are cat lovers. A main reason for this is that cats are all unique. Every person is different; cats behavior is just as different between individual cats. Some are lazy, others are very loyal, and still others are incredibly smart and curious. If you notice a change in your feline, then something might wrong. Changes in routine can affect some cat behavior; cats like to feel safe and secure. Cats will let you know by not correctly using their litter box. It is important to get to know your cats, so you learn their normal behavior.
