Fireplace Designs Gone Bad

Choosing from the many fireplace designs for our family’s new home was quite difficult. Whereas my husband wanted a rugged fireplace, possibly made from brick, I wanted something with elegance and class. I could just imagine hanging my greenery and bows there for the holidays.

So after some civilized discussion that involved hair pulling and a knocked out tooth, we picked the perfect design. But here are some things you’ll want to think about BEFORE you settle on a design rather than after, which was what we did!

Budget:

It’s important to determine a budget for your fireplace, and then look at fireplace designs that fit in with your budget. We ended up looking at a lot of designs that were out of our budget, but we eventually decided on a fireplace that both of us loved. We thought it looked amazing. Keeping with your budget should be your first priority.

Placement:

Some fireplace designs won’t work with the way your house is built. We didn’t think about this before we started shopping for fireplaces. There were a few that we really liked, but even so we couldn’t use them because they wouldn’t be able to fit in the space we had set aside for a fireplace. While beauty is an important feature, the size and shape still needs to be taken into consideration.

Use:

Do you want a real fireplace that you’ll actually use, or is it just for show? If you don’t plan on using the fireplace, there are lots of fireplace designs for you to choose from. But if you’re going to use it, then you’ll want to consider the materials that will be used, the shape, and of course how safe the fireplace will be.

You may get frustrated trying to choose the perfect design, but if you follow the tips above, it should be a cake walk!
